Pure Honey Chronicles
-Yep, you got it. It’s pure, at least most times.
Hey there, Honey Lovers! ✨ Let’s talk honey, the liquid gold that sweetens our lives. Back in the good ol’ days before 1940, most ag poisons were old-school inorganic stuff. You sprinkle that on, and boom, instant bee demise, but also, no chance of contaminated honey. Pesticide-tainted honey? Rare as hen’s teeth.
But here’s the buzz. Before the ’40s, honey wasn’t just about the bees; it was mixed up with cheaper sweeteners, like a culinary love triangle. To keep things legit, rules were laid down. Pure honey meant a 100% honey deal, not a sneaky sweetener fling. They even judged honey by color, darker shades getting side-eyed because, well, that’s America for you.
Fast forward, and now we face new threats to honey’s purity. Our bee buddies are cruising through environmental contaminants, pesticides, and antibiotics. Colony health takes a hit, and yep, you guessed it, the bees can whip up some tainted honey.
The sad part? Conventional beekeeping is like, “Eh, whatever” to these contaminants. Pesticides and antibiotics are thrown into the hive mix like confetti. Surprise, surprise, they end up in the honey pot.
These baddies are everywhere, sneaky and not so great for human health. So, to keep ourselves tip-top, it’s smart to steer clear of them.
Thankfully, today’s consumers are no rookies. Slapping “Pure” on a rustic label doesn’t fool anyone. People want the real deal.
Maybe it’s time for beekeepers to embrace a more natural groove, aiming to keep things contaminant-free. Let’s toss in some certified testing to seal the deal on quality.
The FDA blowing the whistle on pesticide-infused honey? Not exactly a shocker, right? Let’s level up and do better!
-Sweetly yours, D 🐝🤠
