Embracing Change - The Art of Requeening
Hey Bee Buddies! 🌸 Ever noticed how colonies go through their own life cycles? They swarm a bit, maybe switch queens a couple of times, and then, well, even the mightiest queen faces the inevitable—time catches up, and she bids farewell.
It’s all part of nature’s grand plan.
Now, if you let things run their course, your naturally managed colonies will follow suit. I learned this the hard way:
- My equipment was buzzing with bees.
- I wasn’t in the mood for more hives or splits.
- Initially, queens were doing okay.
- Fast forward to them getting old and throwing in the towel simultaneously.
- Result? A handful of thriving hives and a bunch of empty equipment.
Lesson learned: it’s way smarter to keep tabs on your queens and swap them out before they decide to retire on you. So, guess what? I’m gearing up for some requeening magic at the end of the second season!
Let’s roll with the changes, shall we?
