Year 7 March - A Peek into the Buzzing Haven ๐Ÿ–Š๏ธ

-First yard visit. Looking good. โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒผ

In the heart of Wyoming, it’s a quirky little tradition โ€“ the day before the next blizzard hits, there’s a sudden warm-up. This time, the warmth lingered for two delightful days, coaxing my bees out for a leisurely flight.

Naturally, it signaled the perfect moment for a visit to the beeyard. It’s still a tad chilly for an in-depth hive inspection. Agitating the hive in these conditions can be more disruptive than beneficial.

Just enough time to:

  • Keep an eye on the graceful dance of bee flight.
  • Give the hives a gentle lift, assessing their winter weight.
  • Scan for any unusual clusters of fallen soldiers on the ground.
  • Ensure there are no signs of discomfort like dysentery.

Here’s the sweet buzz:

  • Every hive is buzzing with life.
  • A handful are a bit on the lighter side.
  • The customary scattering of deceased bees lies on the ground.
  • And, oh joy, no signs of discomfort.

This initial visit is more of a reassurance for my peace of mind than a grand revelation for the bees. Admittedly, I’m still in the dark about the inner workings of the colonies. Yet, where there’s life, there’s hope. Witnessing a few dozen bees gracefully fluttering at each hive’s entrance is a symphony compared to the eerie silence of my March yard visit several years ago.
